How To Get a Good Tarot Reading

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had some pretty bad tarot readings in the past.

One of the worst readings I ever had was the catalyst in helping me decide to offer readings myself! It was so bad I thought - I can do better than that! And here I am. So, in a way, that reading was exactly what I needed.

That reading took me on my own journey to become a professional tarot reader myself!

Some readers out there are really wonderful. They make you feel really held and safe and pass on empowering inspiring and helpful messages that help you to move forward.

Other readers can leave you feeling a little bit like “what the heck just happened?”

We often get people coming into the Spiritual Journey Pitstop group on Facebook to chat about a difficult or confusing tarot reading experience.

And I get DMs all the time from people telling me something negative or even scary a reader said to me and asking me what I think.

I see so many people giving their power away to readers and even worse, I see so many readers taking away their client’s power too! Ew!

Times have changed. We are no longer going to readers to tell us what is going to happen and then send us on our way.

We want sacred space held for us. We want our readers to be empowering, inspiring and we want to come out of our readings feeling like we know our next steps and are ready to take them.

And if that is the kind of reading you want, here are some tips on how to get the best tarot reading you possibly can! 

1. Do your research before booking a reading

There are no degrees or diplomas for us tarot readers and anybody with a deck can make a website, join social media and start selling readings these days.

Not all tarot readers have your best interests at heart. That sucks to hear, but it’s true.

This ranges from readers who talk to their clients like they’re stupid, talk smack about their clients after the session or even convince their clients that they have a curse and need to pay X amount of money to have it removed. ICK.

The best way to choose a reader is to do your research.

Look at their website. Read their blogs. Look at their social media and especially watch their videos. Use your intuition to decide if that person is a good fit for you.

Is this someone you would trust with your deepest secrets and your dreams? Would you feel safe sharing the hard parts of your life with them?

Look at their reviews. On my website I have a page of Praise where I even link to the websites of people who have offered up their kind words. Before you work with me you’re always welcome to send those people a message and ask what working with me is like!

If you find a reader with no reviews, no videos and not much info about them, I’d keep scrolling.

Unless of course you have an intuitive hit and you just *know* this is the person you need to see! Always trust your gut!

But do be aware that if there are no reviews or if this person doesn’t show their face online, there may be a reason for that!

2. Ask questions!

Your reader should be available for questions, or maybe they will even have an FAQ page! If you have questions about your reading, ask them!

You may like to ask about the format of the reading, if there’s anything you need to do to prepare. Maybe you want to know if they work with spirit guides and angels or mediumship.

You might like to know if the reading will be a conversation where you get to talk about what’s going on for you, or if it’s more about them just passing on messages.

Some readers will just sit and talk at you for an hour, others will work with you more like a coach and invite you to speak about what’s coming up for you. Some will be a bit of both.

It’s so much better to ask and feel prepared than to bring any anxiety, confusion or unanswered questions into the space.

3. Think about your questions

It’s really helpful for readers if you know what your questions are beforehand.

You can even write them down if you think you’ll forget, or email them ahead of time if your reader is open to that.

I can’t tell you how many readings I’ve done where the client has said they don’t really have a question and then ten minutes before the end they say – oh, but what I really wanted to know…

We may be “psychic” but that doesn’t mean we are mind readers.

Sure, some readers will know your question, but for me, and plenty of other readers I know, we work a little differently.

A really specific question helps me tune into your energy and the messages start to come through so much more clearly from that anchor point.

For many readers, a specific question will get you a specific answer, and general readings usually get general answers.

So please, ask your questions and make sure you get the answers you want, and then if there is time, let your reader tune into whatever else is going on.

4. Prepare yourself ahead of time

Make sure that you give yourself a bit of time to just chill out and prepare before the reading.

If you are meeting a reader online, take some time to organise yourself. Have a notebook, pen and glass of water ready and go to the toilet!

If you are meeting a reader in person, try to make sure you get there a bit early so you can relax a bit before you go in.

There is nothing worse for a reader than opening up the door, or the Zoom room and your client is out of breath and frazzled!

Take some time to call in your own guides, angels and higher self and tell them what you want out of the session.

Ask that you will be protected in the space, that your reader will have access to what they need and that everything that comes through in the session is in alignment with your best and highest good.

5. Communicate with your reader

When you sit down with your reader, tell them exactly what your questions are and what you want from the session.

Some readers will just start pulling cards, which is totally fine if you want a general reading, but if they aren’t getting to your question and time is ticking, make sure to stop and ask them for what you need.

Your reader is there for you. They should listen to you and work the reading around your needs.

6. Listen with an open heart but use discernment

Many people go to see a reader thinking that this person is going to have all the answers.

Well, hopefully they have some answers for you! But this person is not your saviour and they can’t fix your life for you.

They may not even get it all right.

Readers are human, and even though they are channelling and passing on messages from spirit or wherever your reader brings them in from, they are still translating through their own lens, their own life experience.

It can be difficult to know when you are just hearing what you don’t want to hear, and when the reading is “off”.

The best thing you can do when you’re not sure about the messages you are given is to stay curious about them, use your own intuition, pull your own cards for confirmation or speak to a friend or even another reader.

7. Take what resonates and leave the rest

There may be one or two things that you take from a reading that were really helpful and powerful, take those on board.

If there are things that were said which didn’t really feel true in your heart, let them go.

8. Reflect on your experience

Reflecting on a reading is such a big part of the experience. I like to go to a friend and share my experience, or sometimes I just like to sit with it for a few days.

I think about how the reader made me feel.

I think about what they said and what felt true to my heart and what didn’t.

And I also think about what it was that my guides and angels really wanted to communicate to me through that reading.

Sometimes it’s a message straight from the reader’s mouth! Sometimes it’s the cards that were pulled. Sometimes it’s something else entirely, like when I had that bad reading that made me become a reader!

9. Remember that the only person who can create your fate is YOU

Too many people go to readers and believe 100% of everything they say. They will change their whole lives based on something a reader has told them.

I have actually done this myself in the past too! And let me tell you, it did not work out for my best and highest good! Although, it is a cool story to tell when I’m teaching tarot and discussing my thoughts on predictive readings!

If your reader works with predictions, they are usually just telling you what they see in that moment.

But our timelines are changing constantly, and you can change your whole life in one small decision!

I believe there are some things in life that are set in stone – people you are destined to meet, places you are meant to go, experiences your soul needs to have, but there is a lot of wiggle room, and we have the power to change so much!

Think about what your reader has told you may happen, or any other advice they gave you, but stand in your power and remember you create your fate babe.

No reader can create your magical future for you, you get to decide what you do next and how your story plays out!

What does it mean to show up and do the work?

This week on social media I posted about “showing up and doing the work”.

A lot of people resonated with the post and I had a bunch of DMs from people saying things like - “thanks for the reminder, I haven’t been showing up like I want to”, and I also had a few asking me what it actually meant to show up and do the work.

Good question!

It’s one of those phrases that’s thrown around a lot in spiritual and self help circles, so I thought I’d throw my two cents in and let you know what it means to me (because this stuff always means something different to each of us!) to show up and “do the work”.

As someone who does spiritual work (and writes YA indie novels!) for a living, it’s kind of my job to tune in and pass on information that comes through. Whether that’s in a one on one session, or through something I feel called to share on social media or on my blog.

When I say something like “this came through in my meditation” or “my guides have been telling me this” people often ask how they can receive the same kind of downloads and intuitive hits.

The answer is - show up and do the work.

For every one time I go into meditation and fly off to the Sirius star system and get some download that gives me a huge insight and majorly shifts things for me there are 100 times I show up and I just stay on planet earth. (Which is still cool btw, and sometimes very much needed!)

the more I show up and do the work the easier it gets to chat with my guides, hear what they have to say, know what my spreads mean, visit higher dimensional realms and know what my next steps are!

Someone sent me a DM and said that they were worried they would show up and still nothing would happen. The thing is though, showing up is the reward in itself.

When you are the type of person that shows up for yourself, for your heart, soul and spiritual journey, when you show up for your dreams, you can’t lose. Even if you don’t get exactly what you wanted, becoming that person, that’s a huge reward in itself.

Here’s a simple of list of practical ways you can show up and do the work:

• Develop a consistent spiritual practice

• Meditate every day!

• Journal

• Live consciously

• Help other people

• Do shadow work (look at your own “stuff” and work through it!)

• Pull your own cards daily to help you tune in

• Read spiritual books

• Take workshops and courses - Woo Woo 101 is a great place to start!

• Create some routines and structure

• Practice self-love on those days when it’s all too hard to show up (practising self-care is part of showing up!)

• Join The Circle for resources to help you and support on the path!

• When your guides give you a nudge or some guidance, follow it!

• However you show up and do the work, do it regularly!

Most of all, make sure you are showing up and doing the work in the way that works for you and your life. There is no right or wrong way to show up. You know if you’re doing it or not!

Gurus, Spiritual Teachers + How to find your own way on the Spiritual Path

The following post (with a couple edits) was originally part of a newsletter sent out on 27th August 2017. It had such a big response I thought I'd post it as a blog for y'all. x

The news in India of riots and people being killed in the streets over the arrest of a guru has shone a massive light on the whole guru thing this week. My heart really goes out to all those affected, but I can't help but look at all this and just wonder where we're going so wrong.

The internet is ablaze again this week over the news that Doreen Virtue is giving up Tarot and predictive readings, taking her name off her Angel Tarot decks and moving even closer to her Christian path.

This has brought up a lot for people, and we are holding space in the Spiritual Journey Pitstop for anyone who feels that they need to talk about what all this is bringing up for them with no judgement from either side. However you are feeling about all this is totally valid and important for you to express and move through, but I have been asking people to share from a place of what this is bringing up for them personally, rather than making assumptions about DV, her path, work and publisher, because even though we feel like we know her, we really have no idea what is really going on and speculation doesn't really help us to move through it.

As you may know, I've been a big fan of hers for years, but I honestly, personally don't give a hoot if she burns all her decks in a Christian ritual on top of a hill and gives her life to Jesus or not. (I did that once myself but it's a story for another time).

I really just wanted to talk in this blog post about the whole "guru" thing and how it's failing us, and how we are failing ourselves by looking up to peeps to be our gurus and what we can do instead.

I've actually unfollowed a few people on Instagram recently after I have had in-person encounters with them that left me reeling, feeling that who they are behind the Instagram is actually not in alignment with what they teach + preach online.

We are all very human and we can't put someone on a pedestal just because they have a book deal and we don't.

I have people message me sometimes saying that I'm their "spiritual teacher" and while that's incredibly flattering it also freaks me out! LOL!

Because I'm just another person on the path really. If anything, I prefer to see myself as a kind of "bridge".

My job is to help you to get from over there to over here, more aligned on your path, more connected to your own guidance.

That's what a spiritual teacher is really supposed to do for us I think, just help us find our own way. 

When we put so much pressure on one person, or a group of people, to have all the answers for us, to do the work for us, or to always be on the same path as us, things get dangerous.

We are all on our own journey and what I share with you guys is just where I'm at with mine.

My journey is going to change, just like yours is.

You always have the choice to keep following my journey or not. 

The choice is yours.

When we are looking for spiritual info there are some things we can do to help us be discerning about someone else's story and teachings to help us find our own path.

And as always, even this list might not totally resonate with you! Take what does, leave the rest. :D

1. Follow people who say "take what resonates and leave the rest".

:P

2. Avoid people who have any sort of vibe that their way is the "right" way and other ways are "wrong".

Dogma is so old paradigm.

3. Read and research

whatever you're into, read loads of different books by different authors, watch videos on YouTube, listen to Podcasts etc. Cast your net for teachings wide.

4. Work with your own energy first and foremost.

When we protect (check out my free e-book for that!), clear and ground ourselves it's much easier to tune into our own intuition and guidance. (Woo Woo 101 starts soooon!)

5. Remember that your spiritual teachers are just as human as you. 

A book deal doesn't make you more enlightened and a whole lot of followers doesn't mean you're more connected to the universe.

6. Unfollow and let go of whatever doesn't vibe with you, or no longer vibes.

We are never going to resonate with anyone 100% but if you no longer find someone's content useful or interesting or empowering in anyway, you can just hit unfollow and move on.

My work is moving more and more into a direction of helping you find the answers for yourself. 

I reaaaaally want to help you do the work that's going to help you find your own path. I'm not interested in you doing things "my way", I just want you to find the right way for you.

Ten Ways to Clear your Energy

Knowing how to clear your own energy is everything.

I'm a big believer in the quadruple threat of energy work - grounding, clearing, protecting + connecting.

K, so how can you tell if your energy needs clearing? Well, it's different for everyone, but for me it feels something like:

• Sluggish
• Tired
• Heavy
• Blah
• Icky
• Gunky
• Like I'm carrying a lot of stuff around that isn't necessarily mine
• Thinking or worrying a lot
• Thinking or worrying a lot about other people's stuff!
• Just generally energetically drained
• Really hungry!

Of course if you are feeling any of these symptoms for more than a couple of days it could be worth checking in with your doctor.

Clearing your energy can help you shift away any old gunk, negativity and anything that you've picked up along the way that isn't yours. :)

Light

Letting in some light can clear your energy in a jiffy! If you can get under the sun for just a few minutes, brilliant.

If you can't get out for a beach walk, visualising white light (or any colour of your choice, sometimes rainbow is fun!) coming in through your crown chakra and down through your body is a fab way to center and clear your energy and the best part is you can do this anywhere, even on the tube! :D

Crystals

Working with clear quartz can help you to clear your energy. Hold one during meditation, wear one during the day or pop one in a glass of water or your bath. 

Sound

Playing your fave tunes, ringing bells and even clapping through your aura can shift negative energy!

Salt Baths

For a more intensive clearing, throw a handful of salt in the bath (regular kitchen salt will do!) with a few drops of essential oils of your choosing, oh but check they aren't the burning kind!

Angels

I like calling in Archangel Michael and Raphael as a duo to help shift and clear my energy for me. I just literally call their names and ask them to clear my energy. Simples!

Smudge

Waft a smudge stick or a stick of Palo Santo or even an incense stick through your aura.

Rest

This is such an underrated way to clear energy! Take some down time and let your energy banks refill while you chill.

Drink water

Make sure you're drinking enough water! Before you take a sip put your hands over the water and set the intention that this water is to clear your energy.

Nature

Getting out in nature is a brilliant way to clear your energy. A beach or a bush walk or even just a stroll in the park can clear out even the most stubborn of gunked up chakras. 

A bush walk can clear those cobwebs in no time! x

Cord Cutting

Cord Cutting is a powerful clearing tool. Cord Cutting involves identifying and energetically cutting cords of negativity that are affecting your energy. You can grab my Cord Cutting kit here. :D

The Secret to connecting with your guidance + intuition

There is so much info out in the world right now about how to connect with your intuition, your higher self, your spirit guides and angels. And a lot of it is seriously awesomesauce... 

But what if all those meet your guides and third eye meditations just don't seem to work for you? 

I tried all those things for a long time and didn't really get that far with them. I did have awesome moments of clarity, feelings of being absolutely guided in a certain direction and some major epiphanies, but these were pretty few and far between.

So how did I get from floundering around the spiritual realms to running a spiritual biz, being able to clairvoyantly see people's past lives and spirit guides?

I started working with my own energy.

I'd been working in a pretty challenging job situation with a lot of negativity and other people's energy flying out in a gazillion directions for quite a few years and it was making me miserable.

When I began to understand that I was a HSP or an Empath and was picking up on and absorbing everything around me, everything changed.

Energy centred = guidance flowing! (The beach helps too) x

Being conscious of what was mine and what was not mine was MEGA. It's like carrying around a massive bag on your back for years and then one day actually noticing what's in that bag and realising it's not even your stuff!

Sidenote: I actually think we are all empaths. Some of us numb it or ignore it, some of us embrace it. No path is "right", only what is right for you and your journey.

Energetic protection has been my rock on my spiritual path. Protecting my energy so I wasn't taking on "stuff" from all over started to make it really clear what was actually mine.

I began working with my own energy in different ways - protecting, clearing (because sometimes you do take on stuff, even when you're super protected), grounding, hanging out with the chakra system.

And then guess what happened? Yep, that third eye just freaking opened and My guides and angels just started popping in for tea.

I didn't have to do anything. Of course, I'm still human. I still have times when I struggle to connect, to know what to do next, or work out which path to take, but when this happens, I go back to basics.

Rebuilding with the Tower card

We're doing a little expose on the "scary tarot cards" here at New Age Hipster HQ and this episode we're getting down and dirty in the rubble with The Tower card.

Some people find this card the scariest in the deck. When I first started reading Tarot I read this card as "an unexpected event that will change everything" or something along those lines. Not surprisingly most of my mates who got the Tower in their readings with me at that stage were pretty freaked out! Sorry about that guys! :O

I mean, how can you tell someone there's going to be an unexpected event that's going to change everything and then send them on their way? Yikes! 

I know there have been times in my life I've pulled the Tower and totally flipped out. Convincing myself something tragic and terrible was going to happen, when actually the only terrible thing that did happen was that I lost a lot of sleep and energy over it all! Self fulfilling prophecy much?

The Tower appears all scary looking with it's lightning crashing, buildings catching fire and people falling to what's probably going to be their deaths, so how can we possibly look at this in a positive way? K, here's how.

Shoddy foundations

Ultimately, shoddy foundations are not ideal for building towers on. When your foundations are a bit rubbish you can keep building all you like, but sooner or later that Jenga tower is coming down. 

When you build your life on foundations that aren't in alignment with who you are or where you want to get to all the building upwards in the world won't make you happy. Sometimes we're building the wrong tower. Like, if you're an Eiffel Tower kind of gal don't try building a Telstra Tower, otherwise the universe might just come along and rip it down in front of you, not to be mean, but to give you the opportunity to build that Eiffel Tower after all.

Clearing

The Tower is a very clearing card. OK, stay with me.

If you wanna renovate, de-clutter, change your furniture around or even just sage yourself, the Tower can be your spirit guide. 

Clearing is not always cheerful and it's not always about donating bags of old clothes. Sometimes we need to clear stuff out from our lives that isn't working. Old relationships that no longer vibe, jobs that suck the life out of us, sometimes the clearing is mega.

But the Tower usually has your bestest interest at heart when it comes to clearing the crap. The stuff you're being called to clear needs to go for a reason, and that reason is to make way for better things right?

Renovating

It can feel pretty darn rough when the universe pops in and starts rearranging your furniture, throwing your couch on the sidewalk, knocking down some walls and whatever the heck else it's up to you down at your place when you've pulled the Tower. But it's really important with this card to remember that whatever is happening is the universe realigning stuff for you. 

When your guides show you this card they aren't trying to freak you out, they are letting you know the universe is popping over to renovate.

Rebuilding

When you get the Tower reversed you're standing in the rubble of the tower that's already come down. 

Now it's your opportunity to rebuild, to fix up  your foundations and create the tower you really, really want. Sure, it sucks to be back at the ground floor again, but it's a hell of a lot better to be standing on a good solid ground floor than living in the penthouse of a tower that's about to topple down!

OK, let's be real here. While we can look for the positives in most situations there are times in life when you are dealt a shitty hand, and sometimes the Tower is in it. 

The Tarot does represent all aspects of life. The good and the bad. There are plenty of times that the Tower represents something as simple as clearing clutter, but there are also times when it's letting you know you need to get out of your job, sort out your finances, or that you need to go home and look after your grandma, or something even harder.

Tower Tips

If you pull the Tower and can't work out whether it's a message for you to get rid of that old couch or that something bigger, all you need to do is pull a second card on it.

The meh Tarot or Oracle Spread - for when you're feeling a little meh x

Sometimes you just feel a little bit meh. Not great, not that bad, but just a bit "whatever". On those days you can grab a deck (Tarot, Oracle, Angel, Crystal, Uno, whatever) and come join me in exploring what's going on with your meh mood.

Why you feel meh

Sometimes we don't really know why we feel meh.

This card will shine a little light on where you're at and let you know what it is you're resisting, avoiding, what blocks are coming up and whatever else might be causing your meh mood.

What's holding you in meh

When we feel meh it can be hard to just "get over it" and turn off Netflix. I mean we've all been glued to The Gilmore Girls with no ability whatsoever to move, unless it's to make tea, and sometimes even that feels like an effort. This card will let you know what's keeping you feeling meh.

How to release your meh

And now some tips on how to release your meh feeling and move on with your life! Yay! 

Action to take

OK, so what do you need to do to get out of meh,  you know, when you're ready. Because it's totally OK to feel a bit meh sometimes, but you can't pitch a tent and live there, K?

Thoughts to change

Very often when we're feeling a bit blah we're not paying attention to our own thoughts.

Are you hustling too hard because you have a belief about how you gotta hustle to win at life and burning out in the process? Are you feeling like a loser because you have a belief that being single sucks?

So many old thought patterns can creep in, even when we think we've totally cleared them for good. This card will let you know what thoughts to change and focus on right now to bring you out of meh.

Oracle for Love and Hugs

This is just a lovely little message from your spiritual team of support, love and etheric hugs!

And here's a message from your team to empower you and help you move through this. :D YAY!

But for those of us who are going through some mega transition and change energy it's been a hard few weeks.

Some ghosts of my past have turned up lately and I've been like "OMG not you guys again, didn't I cord cut the bejeezus out of you guys in November? And last May? And like, all those other times? Why are you still heeeereeee?"

And the answer is simply that when we're shifting into something new just about everything old comes up as bit of a stocktake. 

Exes will contact you, you'll find yourself slipping into old versions of your thoughts and feelings, you'll want to listen to Alanis Morisette on repeat. This is a clear sign you are levelling up.

I used to think that every time old junk would turn up that I hadn't done the work. That I needed a salt bath and some karmic clearing. But there's only so much past clearing you can do, and sometimes when the ghosts from the past pop up it's for an assessment of the here and now and not a kick in the pants from the universe.

When you clear the past you are not wiping it away, watching it disappear as if it never existed in the first place, you are just letting go of it's hold on you.

Your exes are still out there somewhere and Jagged Little Pill isn't going to go up in a puff of smoke. Thank God right?

I think us spiritual peeps forget sometimes that while sage soap can clear your aura for sure, we don't have to forget and let go of everything that's made us who we are today. When the past pops up sometimes it's just so you remember where you've been, the incredible souls you've connected with (even if they are no longer in your life) and the journey you've had so far as you step up into this awesome new energy. 

Spending the weekend revisiting your high school diaries, stalking past crushes on Facebook and having a big old cry in the shower is not a sign that you're not doing the work. In fact, it may just be a really big sign that you're finally letting it speak, revisiting the lessons and the blessings and making space for you to be moving on.

When spirit guides go quiet

Sometimes your spirit guides go quiet.

You're doing all the right things; meditation, journalling, sleeping (you know, in case they contact you in your sleep), but nada. Zip. 

You can start to feel like you've lost your magic, you've lost your team and that you're suddenly all alone in the world.

Well, you're not. But I know that doesn't really help when you feel like you are.

So here's some thoughts on what's going on and what you can when your guides go quiet.

Why do guides go quiet?

I did a reading recently for a beautiful soul who was wondering why her guides were quiet. It turned out a big reason her guides had gone quiet was because she was in a major transition in her life. Now you'd expect your guides to be louder than ever, leading you through, but was actually happening for her was that her guides were also in transition. Many of her old guides were transitioning into new roles, preparing to incarnate and moving on in their own journeys. Their work had been done and now it was time to train up some new guides who'd be the brand new energies to take her through the next chapter in her life. 

I think this is happening for many of us right now. We've come a long way, and some of the guides who have led us to where we are now have completed their tasks and are now onto bigger and better things. And so are you. 

Sometimes guides go quiet to let you work things out for yourself.

Many times when faced with a decision we call on our guidance and get really clear answers. Sometimes we don't, but it's not because they aren't helping you, it's because there's more for you to learn and more growth for you to do by working things out on your own at times. They still have your back and are there to catch you if you fall, but remember:

your spirit guides are just here to guide you, not to make all your decisions and live your life for you.

Sometimes it's not them it's you.

If you're struggling to hear your guides take a look at what you're doing to hear them. Are you making sure you have quiet time? Are you meditating and journalling? Are you actually calling on them and asking for help? So many times people are like OMG can't hear my guides, and I'm like, well are you asking them questions? And the person's face goes o_O 

I do it all the time. Honestly. I always forget to ask for help. I even had to put up a card on my wall to bloody well remind me to ask for answers and to ask for help. 

It's easier to get help and answers when you ask.

What you can do about it

When the guides you usually connect with go quiet it's a great opportunity to connect with someone else.

Whether it's calling on your Guardian Angel, The Fae, Jesus, Ganesha, the Goddess, or any other divine being or deity. It can be a great chance to connect with some energies you wouldn't have otherwise. 

Also it's a really great opportunity to connect with your own self. 

Working with spirit guides is very much about connecting with other beings to help you, but what if you looked within and started trusting your own self even more?

Perhaps that's the real reason spirit guides go quiet is because they want you to connect with your own intuition, higher self and your own soul.

What is a lightworker?

Last week one of the #highvibejuly instachallenge prompts was #lightworker.

So many people were like "I don't know if I am one", or "I had to Google Lightworker" and so I thought I'd pop down some of my personal thoughts on what a Lightworker is, just to help y'all out if you have nfi what one is, or whatever.

First of all, I just wanna preface this post by saying that if you don't resonate with the term "lightworker", no problemo. Some people like it, some people don't. No biggie. 

Personally I like it, and so I use it. That is in no way any disrespect to those who call themselves shadow workers, duality workers, or people who just effing hate labels full stop.

I have seen a lot of hating online towards those who call themselves Lightworkers because there is this idea that we're ignoring our shadow, ignoring the darkness and just dancing around in sequins and pigtails throwing glitter at everything. Which, although sounds kind of wonderful in a way, is not exactly what it's about. For me anyway...

What is the definition of "lightworker"?

We all have different definitions, and yours may not be the same as mine. Just like when someone calls themselves "spiritual" it has like a bajillion different meanings to everyone.

A lightworker is just anyone who wants to make a difference and wants to make the world better.

Being a lightworker is about helping others, helping the planet and basically being a nice person.

Some people say you have to be "spiritual" to be a lightworker. I don't know about you, but I've met some damn fine people shining bright and helping the planet who do not resonate with spirituality at all.

You do not have to have a spiritual job or even be spiritual at all to be a lightworker. Some of the coolest lightworkers I know are total Agnostics. 

I LOVE this definition of "light"! x

How do you know if you're a lightworker?

Here's a lightworker test:

1. Do you try to be a nice person? 

2. Do you want to make a difference?

3. Do you want to help this planet?

If you said yes to the above, you are a lightworker.

The lightworker mission

"Hey Vix, you're cool with going down and helping planet earth for a while right?" 

"Sure, no problem! Earth is heaps pretty and I love hanging out with all my bezzies in human form! :D"

*Gets to Earth like OMG what is happening down here?*

A lot of lightworkers feel a huge amount of pressure to work out what exactly we're supposed to be doing and to get it done like yesterday. There never feels like enough time to complete the mission, we never actually really know what the mission is (apart from "to help") and so it can feel pretty daunting and frustrating at times. 

Connecting with your own inner guidance can give you a much better idea about what you're meant to be doing...

It's important to remember that just being a big bright light, being nice, standing up for injustice and generally doing your part to be a good human is pretty much enough. 

What's the deal with lightworkers and shadow work?

Shadow work is basically about working with the duality of both your light and dark. 

Although nothing brings me more joy than pulling Angel cards and sending love and light to the world, I am very aware that I am human and so I have an ego. As much as I try to bring light into my life, I know darkness exists, within me and around me. I just prefer to focus on the light. That doesn't mean I'm ignoring my shadow. It means when I discover something I don't like about myself or within myself I work on it, but I don't dwell on it.

I prefer to put my focus on what lights me up, and that's why I like the term lightworker.

Being a lightworker is not about being perfect. It's about choosing the light and choosing to do what's right and working on your stuff.

(Again, no disrespect if you prefer the term shadow worker and feel like it suits what you do. We're all doing the same thing just in the way that resonates for us right? Fist-bump)

Lightwork

When I do readings I'm doing lightwork.

When I'm sending reiki or love and light to others I'm doing lightwork.

When you meditate you're doing lightwork.

When you light a candle and pray for peace you're doing lightwork.

When you are nice to the person who makes your coffee, you're doing lightwork.

Angelic + Starseed connections

Many lightworkers also resonate with the idea that they are either incarnated angels, earth angels or starseeds (and we can talk about if these things are even different later). 

In a nutshell an incarnated angel is someone who has spent their time pre-this life hanging out in the angelic realms in angel form. 

In a nutshell a starseed is someone who has spent previous lifetimes and perhaps their soul also originates from another planet.

For many people the lightworker mission is not just about "helping out" but also making sure the planet survives, spreading peace, gaining information and understanding to take back to our own planets later, research assignments, and spreading love and light to help Earth evolve into it's next chapter in which we're all good to each other.
